A spectacular trumpeter with a wide range, beautiful tone, and the ability to blend together many influences into his own style, Byron Stripling is also the artistic director of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, the leader of his own quartet, and constantly in demand to play with pops orchestras around the world. Stripling attended the Eastman School of Music, and originally planned on being a classical trumpeter. However, Stripling could not escape his passion for jazz, and landed a gig with Lionel Hampton’s band. Since that time, Stripling has performed with over 50 symphonies and pops orchestras, including the Boston Pops, Seattle Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Utah Symphony, and National Symphony. An accomplished actor and singer, Stripling starred in the Broadway musical Satchmo. Stripling also has appeared with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, and the GRP All Star Big Band, and has played for numerous film soundtracks and Broadway shows.
