Each year the RPO presents six to eight performances for 3,000 pre-school and kindergarten children free of charge. During these concerts, youngsters engage in participatory activities, learn basic music terms, how to listen, and the instruments of the orchestra. Tiny Tots concerts are performed at a number of different venues around the Greater Rochester Area and are open to 3-6 year olds who are part of a day care, nursery school or kindergarten classroom.
The 2011-2012 Tiny Tots Series will feature a 40-minute concert titled High, Low, Fast, Slow: Musical Opposites, and is designed to introduce children to the instrumental families of the orchestra as well as some basic musical concepts.
Applications from schools may be submitted until March 1, 2012. See below for a downloadable application form. Reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. No phone or fax orders accepted.
Seats are still available for this performance! Contact Barbara Larson at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Sponsored by Macy's, Thomson Reuters, and the Wolk Foundation.
IMPORTANT CHANGES – PLEASE READ
The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will begin charging a $5 per student fee for all of our education concerts starting this year (2011-2012). This carefully researched decision is necessary in order to ensure the RPO’s education concerts are financially viable, protecting our ability to continue these programs as well as the overall fiscal health of our orchestra. By charging a nominal fee for these concerts, the RPO will be aligned with other educational arts programs, both locally and nationally. In order to make this transition as easy as possible, we are providing the following guidelines:
- Due to sponsorship requirements, Rochester City School District students will be given preference in scheduling.
- We are now allowing all schools to bring any or all grade levels (pre-school to kindergarten).
- Teachers and chaperones will not be charged. We are recommending 2 per class. Please contact us if you feel you have special circumstances.
- Schools will be invoiced immediately following the concert for payment.
Thank you for your understanding of our new policies – and for your continued support of the RPO’s education concerts!
