Concert Pianist Andrey Pisarev Returns to Rochester for Two Performances

Internationally acclaimed concert pianist Andrey Pisarev returns to Rochester for two performances in November. First, on Friday, November 5 at 8:00 p.m., RIT’s Performing Artists Concert Series is proud to welcome him back to Ingle Auditorium in the RIT Student Alumni Union. Returning by popular demand, Mr. Pisarev will be playing a recital program of Schubert and Liszt that will include Schubert’s Sonata in A minor, Op. 164 and Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz No. 1. Coincidentally, the orchestral version of this waltz is to be played by the RPO in its Orchestral Fireworks concert the week before.

Then, on Sunday, November 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hochstein Performance Hall, the RPO will present Mr. Pisarev’s performance of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in a world-premiere chamber version adapted for String Quintet by American composer Marek Harris to celebrate the 200th year of Chopin’s birth. The instrumentalists are RPO players David Brickman and Patricia Sunwoo (violin), and Melissa Matson (viola) who, with cellist Mimi Hwang, comprise the Amenda Quartet.  They will be joined by RPO bassist Colin Corner to form the quintet for this special arrangement.  The concert will open with the Amenda Quartet’s playing of Beethoven’s String Quartet in F major, Opus 18, No. 1 and his String Quartet in E-flat major, Opus 74.

Mr. Pisarev, a professor at the Moscow Conservatory of Music, has won top prizes in the Mozart, Pretoria, and Busoni International Competitions, and makes concert appearances world wide.  He was heard in Rochester for the first time in August, 2008 when he was invited here to join a panel of judges in the Eastman School’s Young Performers International Piano Competition.  Last year, he returned to play a brilliant recital at RIT and the Schumann piano quintet with Chamber Music Rochester at the Hochstein Performance Hall.
