Dominion Music Series at Camp Good Days Gets an Encore, Thanks to Dominion Transmission
Rochester, NY – Building on the success of last summer’s first partnership between the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and Camp Good Days, four small RPO ensembles will be able to visit camp again this summer, joining the campers for dinner followed by a 45-minute concert, thanks to support by Dominion Transmission, Inc. on behalf of the Dominion Foundation. In addition, the RPO will provide free tickets for campers and their families to attend its August 2 performance of “Tchaikovsky Finale – with Fireworks!” at Constellation Brands – Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center (CMAC) in Canandaigua.
Dennis J. Sugumele, manager of Interstate Marketing for Dominion Transmission, Inc. presented a $10,000 check to the RPO’s VP for Development Steve Schwab, this afternoon, saying “We are pleased to continue funding this wonderful collaborative program between two key Rochester-area institutions. We knew the RPO would provide a unique experience for the Camp Good Days campers and we are honored to help make this happen.” James R. McCauley, Jr., director of operations for Camp Good Days was on hand to represent the camp, which is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges.
Four different RPO ensembles will participate in the “Dominion Music Series at Camp Good Days” located on Keuka Lake in Branchport, N.Y. for approximately 25 to 60 campers each week:
Woodwind quintet on Tuesday, July 22
Marimba band on Tuesday, July 29
Jazz ensemble on Tuesday, August 5
String quartet on Tuesday, August 12
RPO Principal Trombone Mark Kellogg, who performed last summer as a member of the RPO Jazz Ensemble, recalled that experience: “Playing at Camp Good Days and Special Times served as a reminder of the incredible joy that music can bring to people. I was touched by the campers’ and counselors’ appreciation of our concert and I look forward to the opportunity to return this summer.”
