SIBELIUS En saga
KORNGOLD Violin Concerto
BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 4
Jean Sibelius’ En saga opens this program. The adventurous character of the piece has encouraged many
listeners to create their own vivid interpretations – from a fantasy landscape, a hunting edition, to even a bard’s storytelling. William Hagen makes his RPO debut in Korngold’s Violin Concerto – a lyrical idiom
reminiscent of late 19th century Vienna. Beethoven’s genial Fourth Symphony concludes the program.
