Violin superstar Sarah Chang is “a musician of virtuosity and artistic insight,” says the San Francisco Chronicle. See her perform Vivaldi’s timeless and visceral “The Four Seasons,” music that blooms in perennial splendor. Plus, a newly commissioned piece by American-Iranian composer Gity Razaz. Her new work is conducted by Music Director Andreas Delfs along with Mendelssohn’s sunny “Italian” Symphony.

RPO History
Sarah Chang performed once before with the RPO in January 1993 with Pinchas Zukerman conducting Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major, op. 35.
This is the first time your RPO has performed a Gitz Razaz composition in a Philharmonics Series concert.
Your RPO has performed The Four Seasons in a Philharmonics Series concert 4 times from 1988-2012.
- Pinchas Zukerman conducted in March 1988 with himself as soloist
- Christopher Seaman conducted in March 1997 with Mark Peskanoy as soloists and again in January 2002 with Ilya Kaler as soloist
- JoAnn Falletta conducted in December 2012 with concertmaster Juliana Athayde as soloist
Your RPO has performed Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 “Italian” in a Philharmonics Series or Sunday Matinee concert 13 times from 1926-2013.

The concerti that make up the Four Seasons are ubiquitous in pop culture. Many arrangements, covers, remixes, samples and parodies in music exist and we’ve listed only a few instances here:

- The Piano Guys recorded a crossover arrangement of Winter and Frozen’s Let it Go
- Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019) uses La Senerissima’s Four Seasons
