Itzhak Perlman to Perform with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra in January 2012

(ROCHESTER, NY) – The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) announced today that the reigning virtuoso of the violin—Itzhak Perlman—will perform with the Orchestra on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at 3:00 pm in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre.  The RPO’s incoming Music Director, Arild Remmereit, will conduct this afternoon concert featuring Perlman performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto.

This will be the first time in six years that Perlman will join the RPO in concert.  Perlman made his RPO debut in 1970, performing Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2 under David Zinman.  This will be Perlman’s sixth concert with the RPO, most recently performing the Beethoven Violin Concerto under Christopher Seaman in 2005.

RPO President & CEO Charlie Owens remarked, “We are proud that Itzhak Perlman will be returning to Rochester to perform with the RPO on the historic Eastman Theatre stage.  This appearance by one of the giants of classical music is a fitting complement to the celebratory events during the inaugural season of our new music director, Arild Remmereit.”

RPO subscribers and donors (who contribute $75 or more annually) will have the opportunity to purchase tickets, including up-close pit seats, to this concert during the RPO’s Subscriber/Donor Appreciation Weeks, which will run from Monday, August 15th through Saturday, August 27th.  Then, any remaining tickets will be available for sale to the general public beginning on Monday, August 29th.  Ticket prices range from $35 to $125.

Beloved for his charm and humanity as well as his talent, Itzhak Perlman is treasured by audiences throughout the world who respond not only to his remarkable artistry, but also to the way he communicates the irrepressible joy of making music.  With four Emmy Awards and 15 Grammy Awards to his credit, Perlman enjoys superstar status rarely afforded a classical musician.

In 2009, Perlman was honored to take part in the Inauguration of President Barack Obama. President Reagan granted him a "Medal of Liberty" in 1986, and President Clinton awarded him the "National Medal of Arts" in December 2000. In 2003, he was a Kennedy Center Honoree. In 2007, he performed at the State Dinner for Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, hosted by President George W. Bush and Mrs. Bush at the White House.
