ROCHESTER, NY – The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) performs varying repertoire throughout March.

On Thursday and Saturday, March 1 and 3, guest conductor Christoph Campestrini makes his RPO debut with Concertmaster Juliana Athayde (The Caroline W. Gannett & Clayla Ward Chair) as soloist. The program features Brahms’ Tragic Overture and Symphony No. 4, along with the Barber Violin Concerto.

The following weekend, Christopher Seaman returns to conduct and celebrate his 70th birthday with the RPO. The concerts, Thursday, March 8 and Saturday, March 10, have Christopher’s friend, pianist John Lill as soloist in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1. The program also includes Shostakovich’s Festive Overture and Elgar’s Symphony No. 1. On Friday, March 9, the RPO is throwing a special birthday party and CD release at Harro East Theater and Ballroom. Christopher will share what he’s been doing since his grand finale last June, RPO musicians will perform, and cake and champagne will be served to toast our friend—and Conductor Laureate—on the occasion of his milestone birthday! The RPO’s latest harmonia mundi recording, featuring Ralph Vaughan Williams’ A London Symphony and Serenade to Music, conducted by Christopher, will be released.

Then, March’s concerts conclude with Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik leading the Orchestra in a St. Patrick’s Celebration with Cherish the Ladies on Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17 in Kodak Hall.
