Motown Hits the Eastman Theatre Stage with RPO and Spectrum Vocal Quartet

Rochester, NY – What happens in Vegas isn’t staying in Vegas anymore. The talents of four radiant voices and diverse personalities of the Las Vegas-based Spectrum Vocal Quartet join with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik in “Motown’s Greatest Hits,” opening the WPOP series on Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28 at 8 p.m. in the Eastman Theatre

In an evening of warm harmonies, smooth choreography and first-class entertainment, Spectrum performs favorite Motown tunes like I Heard it Through the Grapevine, You Make Me Feel Brand New, Reach Out – I’ll Be There and Under the Boardwalk from legendary acts like The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, The Drifters and The Temptations.  Members of the Spectrum Vocal Quartet are Darryl Grant, Pierre Jovan, David Prescott (a Rochester native) and Cushney Roberts.  In addition to the RPO, the group will backed by a four-piece band featuring piano, guitar, bass guitar and drums.

After spending six years recreating the sound and style of The Four Tops in Las Vegas’ multi-million dollar production shows American Superstars and Legends in Concert, the quartet’s stirring renditions propelled them to headline their own shows in Europe, aboard Royal Caribbean Cruises, at the Hollywood Palladium and with symphony orchestras.  They have worked with numerous artists including The Temptations, Blue Magic, Little Richard, and The Platters, and have appeared on The Today Show.

Born in Rochester, and graduated from School #4 and Madison High School (1970), David Prescott has vivid memories of coming to the Eastman Theatre for educational concerts.  Many of his extended family members continue to live in Rochester; he is proud to say that there are six living generations in his family.

Tickets for these performances are $20-$56, available online 24/7 at www.rpo.org, by phone (454-2100) and in person from the RPO Box Office, as well as at all Wegmans Video Departments.  RPO Box Office Hours are Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. (non-concert Saturdays, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.). The Wegmans Video Department is open seven days a week, 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. A convenience fee may apply.  The WPOP Series is sponsored by Wegmans.

Now in its 84th season, the RPO inspires and enriches the community through the art of music.  The Orchestra is passionately dedicated to outstanding musical performance at the highest artistic levels, and has a unique tradition of musical versatility, commitment to music education in the broadest sense and a deep and enduring engagement with the community.  The RPO has been honored with the New York State Governor’s Arts Award, and two ASCAP awards for adventurous programming in recent years.

RPO performances are made possible in part with grants from the National Endowment for the Arts; the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency; the State of New York; Monroe County; the City of Rochester; and American Airlines, the official airline of the RPO.
