Rochester, NY – The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra is pleased to announce two additions to its full-time staff – Director of Education and Community Programs and Assistant Box Office Manager.
Krishna Thiagarajan has been named Director of Education and Community Programs, effective Monday, May 5. During the search process, the position has been filled by Josephine Whang acting as Interim Director of Education. Within the department of artistic operations, Dr. Thiagarajan will oversee and coordinate all aspects of the RPO’s extensive education and community engagement programs. Collaborating with area educators, RPO conducting staff and artistic operations, Dr. Thiagarajan will be responsible for developing educational concert themes, repertoire and programs, scheduling concerts in satellite venues, developing pre-concert lesson plans and activities and post-concert teaching materials and docent presentations. He also will serve as the liaison to the Rochester Philharmonic League and the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
Dr. Thiagarajan received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from Indiana University. He received his doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Maryland, where he trained and supervised assistant piano instructors and developed and implemented the curriculum. In 1997, he founded and directed Kammermusik Kurs in Dortmund, Germany, a chamber music festival with internationally acclaimed faculty and students. He currently is a Lecturer and Coordinator of Accompanying at the University of Central Arkansas, where he coordinates all performance activities and curricula. A performing pianist himself, Dr. Thiagarajan has appeared throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Dr. Thiagarajan is no stranger to the RPO, having been a marketing and patron services intern in 1999.
Within the marketing and patron services department, City resident Dudley Duberry has been appointed Assistant Box Office Manager, effective Monday, March 24. He will be assisting Box Office Manager Brian Piazza in the day-to-day operations of the box office which includes the RPO’s burgeoning CD sales. Mr. Duberry also will be assisting in the supervision of concession sales at Eastman Theatre concerts as well as the implementation of added-value events. His customer experience in such high-end retail businesses as Barney’s New York and Banana Republic in Washington, DC and Rochester will be an asset in the RPO’s patron services department. Mr. Duberry also minored in Voice Studies at Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama.
