Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Shows a New Face As It Launches Into Social Networking

Rochester, NY – Last month, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra launched into the world of social networking via its new Facebook page: www.facebook.com/pages/Rochester-Philharmonic Orchestra/59358415121 and its new blog, “The RPO and a Cup O’ Joe.”  The Orchestra will be hosting and posting “behind the scenes” news and photos, social opportunities, and special discounts for its student fan members through Facebook.  The blog will help share more “backstage” news and interesting notes about upcoming performances — the stories “behind” the stories.  RPO staff and musicians will be blogging once the season gets under way in October.

“It’s critical that we get more involved in the blogosphere and social networks,” said RPO Director of Marketing Nancy Goldsmith Zawacki.  “Many orchestras have added social marketing to their mix to help increase their visibility to younger audiences. Our musicians have world-class talent — and they have so many tremendous stories to share.  Through Facebook, our blog, and other networks, we’ll be able to reach out to younger generations of RPO fans and tell those stories.”

Zawacki added, “Experiencing music is a uniquely private experience for each of us.  But, the stories behind the composition and performance of the pieces we play are fascinating and very emotional.  You’ll find those on the blog — and read some great entries from our musicians as well.”

The RPO’s Facebook page also can be reached through a link on the RPO’s website: www.rpo.org/facebook. The blog can be accessed through the RPO’s home page, or by typing in:  http://www.rpo-land.blogspot.com/

The more than 150 RPO Facebook fans already include individuals from (literally) around the corner at the Eastman School of Music to as far away as Turkey, Mexico and Australia.
