RPO ANNOUNCES THE RETURN OF HARRY POTTER

FILM CONCERT SERIES IN 2018/19

Will perform music from Harry Potter and the Chamber of SecretsTM  live to picture

Rochester, NY – The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) announces that it will continue the Harry Potter Film Concert Series next season with the second film in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in Concert, on Friday and Saturday, January 11 & 12, 2019 in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. As with November 3rd and 4th’s packed performances of Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone TM in Concert, the RPO will again perform another masterly John Williams’ score live while the film plays in high-definition on a 40-foot screen. The program will once again be part of the RPO Pops Series for the 2018/19 Season, the rest of which will be announced on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, during the annual, free Season Preview Concert. Subscription packages that include tickets for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in Concert will be available the following morning, with single tickets going on sale in July of 2018.

The Harry Potter Film Concert Series, which is another magical experience from J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, kicked off in June 2016 with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and is scheduled to include hundreds of performances across more than 35 countries around the world through 2018.

“We are thrilled to present the next program in the Harry Potter Film Concert Series,” says RPO Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik. “The excellent films, combined with John Williams’ incredible music played live by our world-class Orchestra, make these concerts great events for the RPO and Rochester audiences alike.”

In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, cars fly, trees fight back, and a mysterious house-elf pays Harry a visit to warn him of what lies ahead this year in the world of wizardry. This year at Hogwarts, spiders talk, letters scold, and Harry’s own unsettling ability to speak to snakes causes his friends to doubt him. It’s a year of adventure and danger when bloody writing on a wall announces: “The Chamber of Secrets has been opened.” Saving Hogwarts will require all of Harry’s, Ron’s, and Hermione’s magical abilities and courage.

This film concert series has been created by CineConcerts, in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, and will be conducted by its creator and producer, Justin Freer. He explains, “The Harry Potter film series continues to be a once-in-a-lifetime cultural phenomenon that delights millions of fans around the world. It is with great pleasure that we introduced for the first time ever an opportunity to experience the award-winning music scores played live by a symphony orchestra, all while the beloved film is simultaneously projected onto the big screen. This will be another unforgettable event.”
