RPO Kicks Off Summer Season with Two Concerts at CMAC

ROCHESTER, NY – The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) kicks off the Summer Season with two blockbuster performances at the Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center (CMAC) in Canandaigua on July 2 and 9.

First, Principal Conductor for Education and Outreach Michael Butterman conducts the Orchestra in Red, White, and Boom! on Saturday, July 2 at 7:30 p.m. an Independence Day celebration to remember as the RPO performs patriotic and other all-American favorites complete with fireworks! The program also includes pianist Ilya Yakushev as soloist in Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, a tribute to our armed forces, and percussionists Jim Tiller, Mark Hodges, and Brad Fuster as soloists in Russell Peck’s The Glory and the Grandeur.  Called “a stunning tour-de-force” by The Miami Herald, this piece is a concerto for percussion trio.  Kids 12 and under are free on the lawn!

The following week, Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik trades in his baton for a magic wand as the RPO performs The Music of John Williams: Star Wars, Harry Potter, and More! on Saturday, July 9 at 7:30 p.m.  Composer John Williams has created some of the most iconic sounds of all time.  From the scores to such films as Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Harry Potter, this program is a hit for the whole family.  The RPO and lawn seat patrons will be joined by storm troopers and other characters from the 501st Legion’s Garrison Excelsior.
