RPO OFFERS SUMMER SIDE-BY-SIDE FOR AREA MUSICIANS
Apply now for intermediate & advanced sessions with RPO in Kodak Hall
Rochester, NY – The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) will offer Professional/Amateur Side-by-Side Orchestral Reading Sessions for both advanced and intermediate musicians on Thursday, July 21 in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. Applications are now available at: rpo.org/sidebyside. Cost is $50 per session, payable by check to the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra upon acceptance.
“Playing side-by-side with professional musicians is a very rewarding experience for amateur musicians,” says RPO Vice-President of Artistic Administration Richard Decker, citing the previous 2014 City-sponsored Side by Side: RPO Community Concert in Kodak Hall. “So many of the participants expressed a desire to repeat the experience that we are pleased to offer this “summer day camp” opportunity for the talented pool of amateur musicians we have here in the Rochester region.”
The Intermediate Musician Session will be held 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. on July 21st, and the repertoire will include Schubert’s Symphony No. 8, “Unfinished,” 1st movement; Bizet’s Carmen Suite No. 1, and Sibelius’ Finlandia.
The Advanced Musician Session will take place from 7 to 9:30 p.m. that same evening, with a repertoire that includes Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Tchaikovsky’s Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio espagnol.
Both sessions will be conducted by frequent RPO guest conductor Matthew Kraemer, Music Director of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and former Associate Resident Conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
Applications will be accepted until all available slots are filled. Interested advanced instrumentalists can apply for both sessions, although intermediate applicants will be given preference for the Intermediate Session. All those accepted will be expected to prepare the music – which will be provided by e-mail distribution – individually in advance.
