RPO PRESENTS PIXAR IN CONCERT JULY 12
Tickets go on sale tomorrow for Kodak Hall show

Rochester, NY – From the Toy Story trilogy and Cars to The Incredibles and Up, Pixar has given audiences of all ages some of the most touching and memorable moments in movie history. Now, for the first time ever, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra presents Pixar in Concert on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 7 p.m. in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. Guest conductor Daniel Meyer, current music director of the Erie Philharmonic and director of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra, will lead the RPO in a program full of visually stunning clips and memorable scores from each of Pixar’s 14 feature films including Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc. and Brave. (Presentation licensed by Disney Music Publishing © Disney/Pixar.) Tickets range $19-$69—ANY seat is just $19 for those under 18 years of age—and are available beginning Friday, April 24 at 10 a.m. in person at the Eastman Theatre Box Office (433 East Main St.) and at all Wegmans That’s T.H.E. Ticket! locations, by phone at (585) 454-2100, or online at rpo.org.

These 14 films that were produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by The Walt Disney Company have changed the way we look at animation for the big screen. One of the distinguishing aspects of the Pixar films is serious and respectful attention to music and its role in storytelling. All 14 scores have been written by just four award-laden, very prolific composers: Randy Newman (Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Cars, Toy Story 3, Monsters University); Michael Giacchino (The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up, Cars 2); Thomas Newman (Randy’s cousin, Finding Nemo, WALL-E); and Patrick Doyle (Brave). Collectively, this music has won three Academy Awards, received 10 additional Oscar nominations and won 10 Grammy Awards.

“This concert has received rave reviews all over the world, and we’re thrilled to present such a fun-filled experience for the whole family in Kodak Hall this summer,” says President and CEO Charles Owens. “

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra has been committed to enriching and inspiring our community through the art of music since its founding in 1922. The RPO presents approximately 150 concerts and broadcasts a year, serving more than 150,000 people through ticketed events, education and community engagement activities, and concerts in schools and community centers throughout the region. Notable former music directors include Eugene Goossens, José Iturbi, Erich Leinsdorf, David Zinman, and Conductor Laureate Christopher Seaman; Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik has earned a national reputation for excellence in pops programming during his 20-year tenure with the RPO. With Michael Butterman as Principal Conductor for Education and Outreach (The Louise and Henry Epstein Family Chair)—the first endowed position of its kind in the country—the RPO reaches more than 13,000 children through its specific programs for school-aged children. The RPO’s 2013-14 season highlights include Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik’s 20th anniversary celebration, and a performance at Carnegie Hall on May 7, 2014, as part of the Spring For Music festival.
