UPCOMING ROCHESTER PHILHARMONIC CONCERTS INCLUDE BRAHMS REQUIEM WITH THE EASTMAN-ROCHESTER CHORUS
Marek Harris’ New Angels is Featured on the Symphony 101 Concertswith David Brickman as Soloist
ROCHESTER, NY – The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Music Director Christopher Seaman, continues its season in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre with Brahms Requiem Thursday, April 7th at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 9th at 8:00 p.m.
Seaman leads the RPO, along with the Eastman-Rochester Chorus directed by William Weinert, in delivering a monumental masterpiece, Brahms’ A German Requiem, the composer’s longest composition. The Requiem is accompanied by a suite from Water Music. Audience members are sure to enjoy a quite varied collection in character, from a rather formal and substantial Overture to numerous sprightly dances and sweet, relaxed airs.
The same weekend, Seaman also conducts Symphony 101: Milestones in Christopher’s Life on Friday, April 8th at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 10th at 2:00 p.m. in the Performance Hall at Hochstein.
In addition to selections from Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra and Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, the concert includes Marek Harris’ New Angels featuring Principal Second Violinist David Brickman. The work was commissioned by the RPO for Brickman and premiered in 2002 by Seaman and the Orchestra.
Brickman remarked, “New Angels is one of the most beautiful works composed for violin and orchestra in the last several decades. I can assure those of you who may feel hesitant about new music that this work is accessible on first hearing. It is full of beautiful melodies, haunting orchestral colors, and dramatic, virtuoso writing for the violin.”
