YO-YO MA WITH RPO ON DECEMBER 6 SELLS OUT
Concert sells out to 2016/17 subscribers during priority presale
Philharmonics subscriptions surpassed last season’s total in just six weeks

Rochester, NY – Announced just seven weeks ago at the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO)’s 2016/17 Season Announcement Concert in Kodak Hall, the Yo-Yo Ma Special Concert on Tuesday, December 6 at 7 p.m. has sold out before it was ever put on sale to the general public. Presale access was granted only to 2016/17 subscribers in order to create excitement and drive subscription sales, and that strategy paid off:  Philharmonics Series subscription revenue and packages have already surpassed the final total of last season – in just six weeks. Subscription momentum is not limited to the Philharmonics Series either – overall sales for all series are pacing more than 20% ahead of the prior year in number of packages sold and revenue.

“We’re delighted with the sales results to date,” says Ralph P. Craviso, Interim President & CEO. “We are extremely proud of the 2016/17 season, and it is resonating with our audience members and subscribers. Plus, it’s a great honor to bring world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma to Rochester to perform with our world-class orchestra.”

Other Philharmonics and Pops concerts driving increased subscriber interest include: Handel’s Messiah, led by guest conductor Christopher Warren Green with the Rochester Oratorio Society on Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11, 2016; and Mozart’s Requiem, led by Music Director Ward Stare with the Eastman-Rochester Chorus on Thursday, February 2 and Saturday, February 4, 2017; and Star Wars and More: The Best of John Williamson Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29, 2017.

For those disappointed with the Yo-Yo Ma sell-out, RPO staff suggest signing up for the orchestra’s E-Notes e-mail list (on the left-hand side of the RPO website, or at rpo.org/join_E_Notes.php) to stay up to date on possible waiting list information.
