TCHAIKOVSKY Swan Lake—Suite
TCHAIKOVSKY 1812 Overture

Experience music of power and passion. Music Director Andreas Delfs leads this all-Tchaikovsky celebration. The “1812 Overture” roars through Kodak Hall. Music from Swan Lake enchants. And Olga Kern brings the romantic First Piano Concerto home to Rochester, where she made her acclaimed recording of the piece in 2003. “Blazing and breathtaking,” declared SF Gate.

Where have I heard this?

  • Tchaikovsky’s Onegin Polonaise is featured in the 2018 sci-fi thriller Tau.
  • Sections of movements from Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 are used in 1990’s Misery, 2016’s The Belko Experiment and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and 2021’s Nobody and My Brother, My Sister
  • Sections of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake obviously feature in 2010’s Black Swan, as well as 2000’s Bring It On, 2007’s The Game Plan, and episodes of The Crown in 2015 and 2016
  • Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture plays in 1980’s Caddyshack as Bill Murray’s Carl Spackler blows up the Bushwood Country Club in an attempt to rid the course of a gopher. It also features in 2006’s V for Vendetta and 2022’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
