Tyzik’s Jazz & Mangione

We close the Pops season with a heartfelt Rochester tribute to one of our city’s most beloved musical icons, Chuck Mangione. Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik—who met Mangione at Eastman and went on to perform as lead trumpet in his band—leads a celebration of the lyrical jazz, soaring melodies, and unmistakable sound that made Mangione a worldwide phenomenon. The evening also features Tyzik’s jazz concerto for saxophone and orchestra, highlighting the rich musical lineage that connects these Rochester legends. From smooth grooves to triumphant brass, this concert is a joyful hometown finale filled with nostalgia, pride, and unforgettable music.
