East Side, West Side and River Side, the RPO Performs All Around the Town This Summer

Rochester, NY – It’s been a long time in coming, but summer will make its appearance in Rochester, and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will be right on its heels.  From Geneseo to the Genesee River and everywhere in between, the RPO will bring its talent and versatility to audiences throughout the area in both free and ticketed concerts. 

TICKETED CONCERTS

  • Friday, July 11 at 8:30 p.m.: This year, Jeff Tyzik conducts the RPO’s annual Summer
    Spectacular with Fireworks
    concert at SUNY Geneseo’s beautiful Saratoga Fields (rain location is Wadsworth Auditorium).  This concert of light pops and patriotic favorites provides an informal way to enjoy a summer evening, topped off by a spectacular fireworks display.  Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and friends.  Tickets are required: $12/7 advance, $14/8 at the gate; children under 5 are free.  Advance tickets will be available starting May 1 from the RPO Box Office (585-454-2100) and at various locations in Geneseo. This concert is made possible by the family of Mrs. Hubert W. Chanler and the Gertrude L. Chanler RPO Fund at the Rochester Area Community Foundation.
     
  • Thursday, July 24 at 7:30 p.m.: A fundraiser for Temple B’rith Kodesh (2131 Elmwood Ave.) features the RPO in a concert highlighting traditional classical works conducted by Jeff Tyzik.  The featured soloist performing the first movement of Grieg’s Piano Concerto is the young pianist Benjamin Hopkins, a senior at the School of the Arts and this year’s Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra League’s Young Artist Auditions Special Award winner.  General admission: $20/advance and seniors; $25/at the door; $15/student (with id); $50/family (2 adults plus children living at home).  For ticket information, call Temple B’rith Kodesh at (585) 244-7060.

CONSTELLATION BRANDS-MARVIN SANDS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER (CMAC)

  • Wednesday, July 16 at 7:30 p.m.: Jeff Tyzik conducts the RPO in the Gazebo at Ontario Beach Park (4799 Lake Avenue) for a lovely summer’s evening of music.  Sponsored by Monroe County.
  • Friday, July 18: Take Me Out to the Ballgame. The all-American sport of baseball played by the Rochester Red Wings is followed by the annual RPO concert at Frontier Field. Conductor TBA.  Gates will re-open after the game for the 8:30 p.m. concert culminating in a fireworks display.  For more information, call the Rochester Red Wings at (585) 423-9464.  This concert is sponsored by Monroe County.
  • Friday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m.: Symphony on the Genesee.  After two successful barge concerts on the Erie Canal, the RPO moves to the Genesee River at Corn Hill Landing (Exchange St. at Plymouth Ave. South).  The RPO continues its floating concerts with music from popular movies and American patriotic favorites, conducted by Jeff Tyzik.  This is a community concert presented by the City of Rochester.
  • Wednesday, July 30 at 12 noon: Michael Butterman conducts a summer “Around the Town” concert at Valley Manor (1570 East Avenue). 

Various RPO ensembles also will be appearing in free concerts throughout Rochester; details TBA.

ANNUAL RPO GOLF TOURNAMENT

Monday, July 21, Cobblestone Creek Country Club: Tee off to benefit the RPO’s educational programs in the 15th annual RPO Golf Tournament. A variety of golf packages are available, including the opportunity to have an RPO musician join your foursome, reserve a tee sign or sponsor a contest. Registration and lunch
begins at 11 a.m. followed by an afternoon of golf. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks begin at 6 p.m. with dinner, live jazz and awards following. Contests for both men and women include Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive and Best Team Score.  Cobblestone Creek is located in Victor, N.Y. 

BRAVO! VAIL VALLEY MUSIC FESTIVAL

As part of its 18th residency season at the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival, the RPO performs six concerts in Vail, Colorado from Friday, June 27 through Friday, July 4. Christopher Seaman and Jeff Tyzik lead a variety of classical and popular programs throughout the seven-day residency.
