The Rite Of Spring: Featuring Garth Fagan Dance!

The glorious works that bookend this program originated from the same sources: the ground-breaking Russian dance impresario, Sergei Diaghilev, and his company, Les Ballets russes (Russian ballet). More than a century has passed since its violent, scandalous premiere. And still, Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” continues to surprise and provoke, excite and enthrall. Andreas Delfs leads Stravinsky’s savage masterpiece. Rochester’s own Garth Fagan Dance will realize the rituals in Stravinsky’s score. Plus, Andy Akiho’s theatrical work “Ricochet,” featuring two ping pong players on stage with the orchestra. And Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloe rounds out the movement-focused program while epitomizing Ravel’s impeccable craftsmanship and superlative skill at evoking atmosphere.
