RPO Gives a Star-Spangled Memorial Day Salute

Rochester, NY –   It’s time to pay a patriotic musical tribute with a Memorial Day salute, RPO style.  In this final Casual Sunday Matinee concert of the season, Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra perform on Sunday, May 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Eastman Theatre.  Ticketholders are invited to a 12:30 Bagel Brunch at Miller Center Atrium with bagels and coffee generously provided by Bruegger’s Bakeries.

Jeff Tyzik’s arrangement of The Star-Spangled Banner opens the concert followed by John Williams’ Liberty Fanfare and The Patriot (from the film of the same name).  Continuing the American salute is music by the great March King, John Philip Sousa, leading into Richard Rodgers’ Victory at Sea – Symphonic Scenario for Orchestra

After intermission, the RPO performs Robert Lowden’s Armed Forces Salute, during which the Orchestra invites the men and women of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard to stand and be honored.  Jeff Tyzik’s Pleasant Valley Suite and American Celebration follow the Salute, and two of our country’s patriotic gems, Irving Berlin’s God Bless America and Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever close the concert.
