RPO’s Postcards from Vail Blog to Include Audio Podcasts

Rochester, NY – While the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra is out of town for the next 10 days, fans and supporters of the Orchestra – as well as those curious about day-to-day life during the Orchestra’s summer residency in Vail, Colorado – can still keep track of its “goings-on.” The RPO’s virtual “Postcards from Vail” blog can be accessed through www.rpo.org. Selected audio postcards also will be available as podcasts on the WXXI-FM website at www.wxxi.org, with links to and from the Vail page on the RPO site.

From June 28 through July 4, the RPO performs six concerts as part of its 16th residency season at the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival. Blogs will include such varied stories as travel adventures getting to Vail, conversations with audience members, concert and restaurant reviews, guest artist previews and interviews, and more. Photos illustrating the story blogs also will be available online.

WXXI Music Director Julia Figueras will interview RPO Music Director Christopher Seaman, Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik, and Concertmaster Juliana Athayde (The Caroline W. Gannett & Clayla Ward Chair), who will describe the culture at the Vail festival; talk about how they spend their days in Vail; and explain the importance and benefits of the RPO’s summer residency. The five-minute conversations will run in rotation, and will be available as podcasts through www.wxxi.org, and broadcast on Classical 91.5/90.3 from June 30 through July 3, as follows:

Friday 6/30 7:45 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 4:15 pm
Saturday 7/1 7:45 a.m., 12:30 p.m.
Sunday 7/2 7:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m.
Monday 7/3 7:45 a.m., 12:30 p.m, 4:15 p.m

The Vail concerts include Christopher Seaman conducting such guests as pianist Jon Nakamatsu in Mozart’s Piano Concerto in C Major “Elvira Madigan;” violinist Anne Akiko Meyers in the Chaconne from The Red Violin; and the Mozart Requiem. Jeff Tyzik leads the orchestra with the Mambo Kings; the RPO’s own trombonist Mark Kellogg and clarinetist Kenneth Grant; and concludes the series with the free ever-popular patriotic concert featuring baritone Daniel Narducci.

The RPO’s residency is made possible by the generous support of the Elaine P. and Richard U. Wilson Foundation.
