Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Announces the Next Truth Is of No Color Event

This FREE series, part of RPO @ Home, continues with a musical streaming event now available in partnership with YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County

September 8, 2021. Rochester, NY —The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO), together with YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County, is pleased to announce the next in the series of free, streamed musical events dedicated to the fight for social justice entitled Truth is of No Color: Concerts for Social Justice. This series of events is part of the orchestra’s RPO @ Home streaming series and is free to viewers.

Throughout history, music has been used as a way to promote awareness on social issues and encourage activism. Each event in the Truth is of No Color streaming series features music by composers of the past and present – many whose voices have been suppressed for hundreds of years, based on their sex, race, heritage, sexual orientation, and backgrounds. Each event also highlights a local social justice organization whose vision aligns with the values of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.

The first concert in the series, in partnership with Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives, was released in March. Subsequent events, celebrating the art of the spoken word in partnership with the Avenue Black Box Theatre, and Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, were released and viewed by audiences worldwide.

This most recent installment, in partnership with YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County, celebrates Women’s Equality and features music by leading American women composers Jennifer Higdon, Caroline Shaw, Missy Mazzioli, Florence Price, and Jessie Montgomery, and is available for free viewing through October 17th.

For this installment of Truth is of No Color, the RPO has partnered with YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County. Since 1883, YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County has been a powerful resource in the Rochester community. Through strong leadership and careful strategic planning, the agency has continued to grow and adapt to meet the changing needs of women and girls. This

streamed collaboration with the RPO features Dr. Myra Henry, President and CEO, and two of the women who have helped to shape the history of the Rochester YWCA, Mrs. Rochelle McDaniel and Mrs. Evelina Lee.

RPO @ Home 2021 highlights Philharmonics, Pops, and Chamber music programs. The RPO @ Home Truth is of No Color series of chamber concerts are available for free, unlimited viewing up to 45 days following the first concert date. To stream, visit www.rpo.org.
