Volunteer Spotlight: Keith Yeates
My interview with Keith Yeates reminds me of the quote by Erma Bombeck. She once said, “volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation’s compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain love for each other.”
Mr. Yeates has been a part of the ushering team at the RPO for 6-7 years now. His wife, Jane, who has also ushered for 10+ years, asked him to join the team. We're happy that he accepted her invitation!
Keith can work in many areas of the theater – you can find him on the balcony, mezzanine, or orchestra sections helping patrons with seating, and he also volunteers with ticketing. He loves helping concertgoers find their seats or having pleasant interaction with other volunteers and patrons before and exiting performances. He enjoys a board spectrum of performances. His favorites, however, are Mozart, Beethoven, and the Pops.
While chatting with Keith, I found out some interesting background: he is from Oxford, England and has lived in Ireland, France, and North Carolina. He is a retired Businessman and ran a manufacturing company. Speaking of running, that's exactly what Keith likes to do! Keith was a runner in high school and played soccer in college. He runs everywhere he has lived. Here in Rochester, he is a member of the Genesee Valley Harriers and competes in many races. In fact, he competed in the USATF National Grand Prix and finished 3rd in the country! His best time in a 5K is 23 minutes. What he loves about track and field is the camaraderie and social connections, the same things he finds and enjoys as a volunteer at the RPO. Keith believes that being a runner keeps him in good shape and leads him to a healthy life.
Mr. Yeates has a great love and compassion for the many activities he is involved in. He was president of the ICMA while in business and he has served on many different committees, one being the Wilmot Cancer Institute Advisory Board.
He loves Rochester and all that it has to offer. He lives here with his wife, Jane. He has 3 daughters and 7 grandchildren.
Our community has been blessed with Keith living here for 35 years!

The RPO’s primary and intermediate concerts are coming up soon! We always need volunteers to help escort classes through the theatre, both before and after the concert.
