Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre

Parking is available around the theatre including the East End Garage, surface lots, and street parking. *East End Garage parking notes: Parking is $7 and CASH ONLY. Please allow for extra time as the Scio Street entrances are the only ones open to traffic and staffed with parking attendants. *Surface lot parking notes: The parking lot at the corner of Main and Gibbs is a pay-to-park with a parking machine. Please allow for extra time to pay at the machine if you plan on parking there.

DESCRIPTION

Christopher Seaman, Music Director from 1998 to 2011, returns to Rochester to lead Dvořák’s lyrical, loving hymn to nature, the verdant Eighth Symphony. And, a solo performance by your RPO’s beloved concertmaster Juliana Athayde, who radiates the great joy of making music, a spirit that will be heard in every note of Bach’s glorious Violin Concerto.

RPO HISTORY

Your RPO has performed Elgar’s In the South three times in a Philharmonics concert from 1990 to 2015.

  • Christopher Seaman has conducted this piece twice – April 17, 2010 and April 28-May 2, 2015.

Your RPO has performed Bach’s Violin Concerto in E two times in a Philharmonic Series concert.

  • Eugene Goossens conducted this piece on November 16, 1928 with Gustav Tinlot on violin.
  • Leonard Bernstein conducted this piece on February 27, 1947 with Isaac Stern on violin.

Your RPO has performed Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 12 times in a Philharmonics Series concert from 1950 through 2019.

  • Erich Leinsdorf conducted this piece on March 9, 1950.
  • Andreas Delfs conducted this piece March 19-24, 2013.

PRE-CONCERT ACTIVITIES

Pre-concert talk with Maestro Seaman, violinist & concertmaster Juliana Athayde, and moderator Julia Figueras will start 1 hour before the show.

MARCH 21 ONLY: Strings for Success (Patty Yarmel, director) will perform in the lobby across from Betty’s Cafe starting at 7 PM. Strings for Success is one of the RPO’s flagship OPUS (Orchestral Program for Urban Students) partners.
