JEFF TYZIK ADDS DETROIT SYMPHONY APPOINTMENT
RPO Principal Pops Conductor will be busier than ever

Rochester, NY – Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik will be busier than ever in the next couple of years, as Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) announced yesterday that he’s been named its Principal Pops Conductor.  His appointment will span three years, beginning with the 2013-14 season and concluding with the 2015-16 season. Tyzik will be the first artist to occupy the DSO Principal Pops Conductor position since Erich Kunzel vacated his Pops Music Advisor title in 2006.

Tyzik will guest conduct the DSO this weekend, then return to Rochester to conduct the RPO in the world premiere of his new suite to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Memorial Art Gallery:  Images: Musical Impressions of an Art Museum, on Thursday, November 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, November 10 at 8 p.m. at Kodak Hall.

Tyzik also currently serves as Principal Pops Conductor of the Oregon Symphony and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He was appointed Principal Pops Conductor of the Florida Orchestra at the beginning of 2012 and was recently appointed the same title at the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.  He will celebrate his 20th anniversary with the RPO next season.

“It’s a thrill to be Detroit’s new Principal Pops Conductor,” says Tyzik. “I’m also excited about continuing my role as PPC of the Rochester Philharmonic, and I look forward to making great music next season in both the Motor City and the Flower City.”
