ROCHESTER PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF GARTH FAGAN DANCE

Rochester, NY — Garth Fagan Dance and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) join forces to celebrate 50 Years of Garth Fagan Dance on January 24 & 25, 2020 in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre.

This rousing, provocative, and nourishing collaboration blends Garth Fagan’s eclectic repertoire with the RPO’s musical prowess to showcase an expansive breadth of music. Selections include Fagan’s “Oatka Trail” set to Dvorak; “Dance Collage for Romie” with music by Jelly Roll Morton; and “Mudan 175/39” with musical selections by Lei Liang – hailed by The New York Times as “…quite possibly one of the finest works Mr. Fagan has created.”

Single tickets start at $24 and can be purchased online at rpo.org or by calling the RPO’s Patron Services Center at 454-2100.

The 2019/20 Season is presented by M&T Bank and Rochester Regional Health – The Lipson Cancer Institute.

Known around the world for his groundbreaking choreography of Broadway’s The Lion King, Garth Fagan is known as one of the most dynamic and original artists working in the field today. Architect of a distinct new movement style, creator of over 75 works for theater and the concert stage, inspired teacher, and the man who transformed Rochester, NY into an incubator for world-class contemporary dance.

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) has been committed to enriching and inspiring our community through the art of music since its founding in 1922. The RPO presents approximately 150 concerts and broadcasts a year, serving up to 170,000 people through ticketed events, education and community engagement activities, and concerts in schools and community centers throughout the region. Music Director Ward Stare joins the ranks of former notable RPO music directors, including Eugene Goossens, José Iturbi, Erich Leinsdorf, David Zinman and Conductor Laureate Christopher Seaman. Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik, now in his 26th season, has earned a national reputation for excellence in pops programming during his tenure with the RPO. The RPO reaches more than 15,000 children through its specific programs for school-aged children.
